About Pokemon Tower Defense

If you understand the immense personal sacrifice involved in capturing, training, and battling Pokémon, then you can consider yourself a true Pokémon fan. Pokémon Tower Defense 2 takes the battling concept of Pokémon and transforms it into an engaging tower defense game. Name your main character, embark on your adventure, and watch as the worlds of tower defense and Pokémon collide. Battle and defend your way through story mode or compete to top the roster in 1vs1 mode. Discover new Pokémon and push your battling skills to the limit in this highly addictive tower defense game.

The original game, a flash-based tower defense title, is inspired by the immensely popular Japanese anime series Pokémon. Released in March 2011 by Sam & Dan Games, it successfully incorporates the best elements of the original console-based Pokémon games from Nintendo into a tower defense format, creating one of the most addictive games ever. This game features the original 151 Pokémon, which may be a slight disappointment for newer fans but will delight purists. Here are some key features of the game:

Gameplay

This game is absolutely brilliant and incredibly fun. It’s astonishing that Nintendo, with all its resources, never came up with this concept, so credit goes to the developers of PTD. The integration of a tower defense game with Pokémon is executed exceptionally well. Once you start playing, it’s hard to stop. Even while writing this, the game is running in another window.

Pokémon Tower Defense starts much like the original Pokémon games. You visit Professor Oak to choose your first Pokémon: Charmander (fire type), Squirtle (water type), or Bulbasaur (grass type). After selecting a Pokémon, Oak’s lab is attacked by hypnotized wild Rattatas, manipulated by Team Rocket through their Pokémon. You defend by placing your Pokémon in a square, selecting its attack, and letting it battle the oncoming Pokémon.

The attacks, upgrades, and evolutions function just as they did in the original games. The storyline also mirrors the original, with familiar locations and challenges. After defending the lab, you set out to find the offenders, accompanied by a boy named Joey whom you rescued from Team Rocket. Catching and collecting Pokémon is similar: instead of searching bushes, you defend against waves of wild Pokémon in tower defense style. The more your Pokémon attack, the more experience they gain, leveling up and evolving into stronger forms.

The storyline continues with visits to Brock’s gym in Pewter City and Misty, now married to Ash, the protagonist of the original series. Both Misty and Brock are villains in this game. Eventually, you discover a different Mewtwo is behind the trouble. The first game is complete and playable, while the second is in development and available up to a certain level.

Options and Features

The range of options is impressive for a free game. You have Training Machines (TMs) to teach your Pokémon new moves, stones to evolve them, and frequent prompts to learn new abilities. The strategy element is robust, with Pokémon strengths and weaknesses adding depth. Grass Pokémon are effective against Water types but weak against Fire types, Fire Pokémon excel against Grass types but not Water types, and so on. The variety of Pokémon types with their unique advantages and disadvantages enhances the gameplay.

Graphics and Audio

PTD closely resembles the original Pokémon games, featuring identical pixel-art graphics. This nostalgic design significantly boosts the game's appeal. The audio also mirrors classic Pokémon music, contributing to the authentic experience, though the lack of a mute button might be inconvenient for some.

This revamped review maintains the original spirit while offering a concise, engaging overview of Pokémon Tower Defense 2.

Just Have Fun!
